Hello Network! We have another Take 30 with the Network rapidly approaching! Please be sure to mark your calendar for the following event!

WHEN: Tuesday August 10, 2021 2:00-2:30pm ET

The demographics of people diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancers (OPC) reveal a new at-risk population: middle-aged Caucasian men who are non-smokers, have multiple sexual partners, low HPV vaccination rates, and have tested positive for the human papillomavirus (HPV).

Judith Haber, Erin Hartnett, and Jessamin Cipollina from Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) will explore oral-systemic health issues related to the sequelae of HPV-related OPC surgical and adjuvant therapy. These include: demineralization of teeth, osteonecrosis, dysphagia, malnutrition, xerostomia, trismus, and lymphedema. We will discuss HPV-related OPC as a clinical exemplar that illustrates benefits of interprofessional management for providing effective whole-person care, including strategies for health promotion, symptom management, and self-management.
